Description
The landscape joins the headquarters of the Deutsche Post to the Rheinau, a large mature park at the edge of the Rhine. The building’s terrace is surfaced with broad stripes of grass and green marble, black granite cobbles, and perforated metal plates, which provide drainage and display a random distribution of tiny fiber-optic lights. At the rear of the terrace a ramp and stair—made of diagonal concrete retaining walls and planting—connect to the lower levels of the park. To the right of the ramp, a pedestrian bridge leads to a small restaurant structure in the park. At the front of the building a large stone circle of black and white cobbles forms an entrance plaza that visually welcomes automobiles and pedestrians to the glass entrance canopy.
